ANTONIETA CARPENTER-COSAND

antonieta carpenter-cosand was born in el paso, texas, united states and grew up in ciudad juarez, chihuahua, méxico: she is one of those: borderless. she paints words and writes images. she loves to live, breathe, see, feel, read, and write about what art does to human consciousness. she advocates for the utopia, following it one step at a time and lives for it, conmoción; con-move.

AMBER MCCRARY

amber mccrary is a diné poet, zinester, and feminist. originally from shonto, arizona and raised in flagstaff, arizona. she earned her BA from arizona state university in political science with a minor in american indian studies. she received her MFA in creative writing with an emphasis in poetry at mills college. she recently released a chapbook of poetry titled, Electric Deserts! (tolsun books). she currently resides in mesa, az. mccrary is also the owner and founder of abalone mountain press, dedicated to publishing Indigenous voices. she is also a board member of the northern arizona book festival.

claudia nuñez de ibieta is a bookseller and spanish/english interpreter and translator. she is also interested in book-making and is a member of the phoenix cartonera collective. she has lived in los angeles, ca, santiago, chile, and tempe, az.

JUNE POWERS

poet june powers was born in bucks county, pennsylvania, july 6th, 1957. playing with words at an early age, she wrote poems for holiday cards, birthdays and family eulogies. the daughter of two artists, she also exhibited an eye for design, pattern and color. upon graduating from philadelphia college of textiles and science with a b.s. in fabric design, she put aside poetry until 2013, when a writing class beckoned and she took up the pen once again. june loves to write about social issues, emotional health, nature, color, and love, often intertwining these categories to speak to life’s way of pulling us in different directions, to allow us to see our true selves. june is the author of three works of poetry: child / poems of consciousness, south / poems of passing through, and heart / poems of love. she now lives in phoenix, arizona among the saguaros. follow june's work on instagram @mamatried609.

MARLYN CRUZ-CENTENO

marlyn cruz-centeno es poeta y narradora puertorriqueña. hija de esther, nieta de maría e isidora, madre de diego. emigró a estados unidos en 2018, como parte de la gran ola migratoria post el azote del huracán maría a puerto rico. desde entonces, arizona se convierte en su segundo hogar. escribir y leer son parte de su proceso vital de construirse una vida, otra vida y tantas vidas.

MARY HOPE WHITEHEAD LEE

mary hope whitehead lee lives on settler-occupied land in that region of the sonoran desert known as phoenix, az. she is an active member of the cardboard house press cartonera collective. three of her frida kahlo poems won a grand prize and two first prizes from the 1998 dancing poetry contest. the grand prize poem was choreographed and performed at the dancing poetry festival on october 3, 1998 at the california palace of the legion of honor in san francisco. her poetry, short fiction and reviews have appeared in this bridge called my back, callaloo, chick-lit: postfeminist fiction, essence magazine, language in society, the journal of creole studies, feminist studies, and most recently in the inaugural edition of little somethings press.

RAQUEL DENIS

raquel is a softly powerful singer-songwriter, with one foot firmly in the acoustic indie world, and another firmly in lyric and narrative poetry. check out a recent performance of hers here. her work examines Black identity, the injustices seen in the desert southwest, the strength of hope, and the magic of Black and brownness. she's based in the phoenix area.

RYAN GREENE

ryan greene is a translator, poet, and bookmaker from phoenix, arizona. he started F*%K IF I KNOW//BOOKS in summer 2019, and he's translated work by claudina domingo, ana belén lópez, elena salamanca, giancarlo huapaya, yaxkin melchy, & héctor hernández montecinos, among others. he currently facilitates the cardboard house press cartonera collective bookmaking workshops at palabras bilingual bookstore.

SHANTIA ELISE

shantia is a black nonbinary creative born and raised in south phoenix who began as a chef, writer and slam poet, and now finds freedom by practicing other art-forms like singing, movement and instrumentation. shantia creates to stand in their truth, heal from their trauma, and make space for vulnerability in hopes that it not only allows them to experience joy which they claim as their birthright, but gives others the courage to do the same.

SHAUNTÉ GLOVER

phoenix-bred, shaunté glover is a visual artist specializing in photo and film. shaunté has directed and produced creative content as well as consulted for businesses and brands. with a keen eye for capturing life's subtleties, shaunté calls herself a storyteller and continues to document and share the culture drawing inspiration from her downtown phoenix neighborhood.
